The AgriTrust framework resolves the agricultural data paradox by integrating multi-stakeholder governance with a semantic, blockchain-agnostic architecture to automate trusted data sharing for regulatory compliance and supply chain transparency.

Description
New regulations, such as the EU Unrestricted Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), make verifiable agricultural data (AgData) essential for global trade. However, its value is compromised by a widespread "AgData Paradox," characterized by distrust and fragmentation. To address this problem, we present AgriTrust, a federated semantic governance framework that automates and governs data sharing. Its key methodological innovation lies in the deep integration of a multi-sectorial governance model with a semantic digital layer, implemented through the AgriTrust Ontology (an OWL ontology for tokenization and traceability) and a multi-vendor, blockchain-agnostic architecture that avoids single-vendor dependence.

AgriTrust was developed using an iterative, multi-phase methodology that integrated domain expert input, requirement analysis, and validation through real-world supply chain case studies.
Additions governed by the AgriTrust Governance Authority based on formal change requests from case studies and regulatory needs.
Competency question
A. Governance & Provenance CQ1 (Ownership): Which :DataProducer owns a given :Asset? CQ2 (Authorization): Who (:DataConsumer) is authorized by a :DataContract to access the data for a specific :Asset? CQ3 (Provenance): What :Process entities transformed a given :Asset, and what were its inputs and outputs? B. Traceability & Compliance 4. CQ4 (EUDR Evidence): For a given :Token representing a coffee batch, what is the geographic location (geo:asWKT) of the farm that owns it, and what sustainability :Certificate does that farm hold? 5. CQ5 (Batch History): List all :IndividualAsset (e.g., cattle) that were inputs to a specific :CollectiveAsset (e.g., a beef batch). 6. CQ6 (Active Certificates): Which :Asset entities currently have a valid (not expired) :Certificate of type "Organic"? C. Interoperability & Operations 7. CQ7 (Cross-Chain Reference): Does a given :CrossChainToken have a registered counterpart on another :BlockchainProvider? 8. CQ8 (Governed Metrics): What :EfficiencyMetric (e.g., carbon footprint) values are linked to a farm's operations, and which :DataContract governs access to them?

The ontology was generated by a structured engineering process involving the formalization of governance principles and supply chain use cases from Brazilian agriculture, leading to its instantiation in OWL and accessibility via the AgroPortal repository.
